Dr. Ma leads the administrative and operational teams at the GSC that support both the research activity and the next generation sequencing, clinical and proteomic platforms at the GSC.

Dr. Ma has had 20 years experience in bioinformatics and cancer genomics research.  She received her PhD from Imperial College London in 2009 for her application of Markov chain Monte Carlo methods in evolutionary biology, after which she worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in population genomics.  Highlights of her time at the ICR include the discovery of novel inherited loci contributing to risk of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and early large-scale whole-genome and exome sequencing studies on colorectal cancer cohorts.

Dr. Ma joined the GSC in 2013 as the Bioinformatics Group Leader and held the position until 2018 when she left to pursue personal projects, including founding a consulting business and roles in the non-profit and biotech industry sectors.  Dr. Ma was delighted to return to the GSC in 2023 in her new capacity as the Director of Operations.
