Job Code: RA 09-24-2018

The Genome Sciences Centre Department within BC Cancer in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada has an opening for the position of genome analyst to participate within the Personalized OncoGenomics (POG) program. POG is applying next-generation sequencing to characterize and interpret the spectrum of genetic mutations in patient tumours in a clinically relevant time frame. These genomic data are informing treatment decisions, including the enrollment of patients onto clinical trials of novel targeted therapies.

The GSC is seeking a highly motivated individual with an interest in translating genomic data into clinically meaningful results to join the POG Clinical Informatics team. You will work to develop and design methods for clinical interpretation of genomic variants to accelerate the GSC’s efforts to automate genomic analysis to support large-scale clinical report generation.

Responsibilities include:

    • Utilize existing software and database systems to analyze next-generation sequence data for the identification and translation of clinically and biologically relevant results
    • Participate in efforts to create and automate integrated interpretation of genomic data
    • Communicate clinically relevant findings to the POG team in a tumour board setting
    • Work closely with members of the bioinformatics teams on development, identification and curation of clinically relevant biological literature
    • Provide leadership in writing manuscripts, abstracts and presentations

Qualifications:

    • Applicants should have a PhD in molecular genetics, molecular biology, genomics or related field
    • Broad understanding of human molecular genetics and cancer biology
    • Experience working with human genomic data, particularly next generation sequencing data (WGS, RNAseq)
    • Experience with bioinformatics databases and resources for personalized medicine (e.g. dbSNP, ClinVar, COSMIC, mycancergenome, TCGA, CIViC etc.)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Skills and experience with presenting to large groups is essential.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority.
