Projects Manager - Collaborative Services

The Genome Sciences Centre is seeking a temporary full-time Projects Manager. This role is for a Manager of research projects and grants in a research environment. Reporting to the Projects Team Leader and working closely with the Principal Investigators (PI’s), you will play a key role in managing projects and grants within the context of a research culture with established policies and procedures, vision and values. This specific position will have responsibilities for process development and management for laboratory activities conducted in collaboration with internal and external partners of the GSC. Tasks and activities will include review and development of cost models and cost controls; invoicing and cost recovery for collaborative services; contracting and statement of work processes; project cost management.

Specifically, you will:  

    • establish budgets for research projects, grants, collaborations and core activities and assist with preparing progress reports
    • monitor expenditures
    • establish, monitor and coordinate milestones, deadlines and objectives
    • recommend strategies for improving projects management methods
    •  liaise with grant/core funding agencies   
    • interact directly with collaborators, as required

Specifications:

While equivalencies will be considered, ideally you bring a degree in Science (preferably Genetics, Biochemistry, Microbiology or Proteomics) plus 5 years' recent related experience in project management and/or research development management.

Certification as a Project Management professional will help you make the short list, as will experience in academic scientific research or the biotech or software industry. Proficiency with MS Word and Excel is essential and you should have excellent organizational, analytical, and verbal and written communication skills.
