Echelon Building Operations Lead

The Building Operations Lead manages the day-to-day facility operations of the Echelon building. Functions overseen by this position include building facilities management, emergency/security preparedness, and participation in the staff onboarding process. Part time and flexible hours available.

Key Accountabilities

  • Functions as the site manager; responsible for planning and implementing day-to-day building operation processes.  The position receives strategic direction from the Operations Manager. Prepares recommendations to the Operations team on how to continuously improve the quality and safety of building operations and support services provided to the staff in the building.
  • Day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing the following areas: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, cleaning, and security contractors. Also oversight of meeting rooms, first aid/emergency preparedness, common area usage, recycling, office space/furniture/workstation management, and building communications
  • Ensure availability of critical supply services by acting as primary interface to vendors and contractors; including power generator, UPS, HVAC, fume extraction
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze problems in complex mechanical and electrical equipment using schematics and operating manuals.
  • Use DDC computerized building control system to manage sensors, analog and binary I/O ports, control loops, meters and logging systems.
  • Act as the primary interface to maintenance staff and vendors/contractors such as the: security guards, alarm company, fire department, locksmith, mechanical, electrical and janitorial contractors, and source and select external contractors as required. Conducts ongoing monitoring and management of spending including processing of monthly invoices. Produces rationale for deficits and improvements
  • Working with the operations team, this role is responsible for ensuring onboarding of new staff in the building to standards set by the PHSA and the operations team.
  • Provides leadership to staff using effective management techniques to support the achievement of required outcomes and ensure adherence to standards set by PHSA and the operations team.

Attends and participates in emergency/security preparedness meetings. Plans, coordinates and implements emergency preparedness, fire safety and security programs for the GSC  in consultation with appropriate resources. 

  • Prepares and distributes communications related to Building Operation activities.

Qualifications

A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree, technical diploma in building management or equivalent experience.  A minimum of five (5) years recent, related facilities management experience is a must. Proven leadership experience in a supervisory role including successful management of staff will be given preference. Candidates with experience working in R&D or production environments will be given preference.

Self-motivated, demonstrated leadership, personal accountability and administrative successes.  Leadership experience in facilitating and adapting to changes while establishing a high standard of quality and level of satisfaction amongst employees, clients, stakeholders.

 Ability to plan, organize and coordinate a variety of activities to ensure maximum effectiveness.  Demonstrated success in broad business skills including human resources, operations, development of business, strategic, and financial plans. 

Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, both internal and external to PHSA.  Strong analytical skills. A problem solver who works with integrity, adaptability and originality.  Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and a working knowledge of PC applications.  Demonstrated capability of maintaining a high level of effectiveness and performance under pressure.  Ability to work independently.  Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
