An executioner caspase regulates autophagy
In our submitted Addendum entitled “ An executioner caspase regulates autophagy” we provide a brief summary of our findings and then speculate more broadly on the possible molecular mechanisms regulating the sensitivity threshold of autophagic and apoptotic responses in our system. We also discuss multiple interpretations of the Atg mutant egg chamber TUNEL phenotype that are consistent with a possible role for autophagy in either suppressing or enhancing the efficiency of cell degradation and/or promoting cell clearance associated with the death process.
